Burgundy Wedding Cake

This was my first wedding cake which I did in June this year for an ex-colleague, Lily. The cake is a classic butter cake. The top and bottom tiers were iced with butter cream. The middle tier was covered with fondant. The color scheme was selected to match the wedding 'belamin' and the scroll designs inspired by the wedding invitation card.

To make the cake look unique and also keeping with the latest cupcake craze, I decided to decorated the bottom tier with color matching muffins. There were a total of 10 muffins and the unique thing about it is not only their look but also that they were of different flavor than the main cakes. They were carrot banana muffins. The little flowers were all made of fondant.

The cake topper was a bunch of store-bought silk flowers of matching burgundy. The cake was a hit at the reception. Even the bridegroom whispered to the bride "macam pernah nampak?" (the cake look so familiar?) to which the bride answered, "itu pattern kad jemputan kita" (that's the pattern of our wedding invitation card). The couple were totally surprised as there were no prior discussions on the design of the cake. The bride left the design to me.

Size of cake: 6" x 4" ; 9" x 4" ; 12" x 4"
